Description
This is the Airfix 1/72 Eurofighter Typhoon F.Mk2. Airfix kits come with amazing decal sheets, but sometimes the kits and the the way they go together is a little lack luster. For example this kit had a lot of flashing on some parts and quite a few fitting issues especially around the engine intakes and the canopy. Nothing a little filler and sanding couldn't fix, but its not something you see on the higher end kits. I was also a little disappointed by the lack of detail in the molding considering this is a fairly recent kit. Overall though I think the kit turned out half decent. I was going to try a little weathering on this build, but I haven't seen many pictures of dirty Typhoons. I'll save the weathering for my next build.
Painting and markings: As I do with most of my builds I used Humbrol enamels and the old paint brush. I think you could say I'm a little old school where I see most people are switching over to airbrushes. Also enamels cure a lot slower then acrylics, but I'm in no rush to finish a build! The markings are No. 3 (Air Defence and Early Warning) Squadron of the RAF, I choose these markings because No. 3 Squadron is one of the oldest in the RAF, formed on the 13th of May, 1912 they celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2012. This Squadron is based out of RAF Coningsby and has operated such aircraft as the Sopwith Camel, Hawker Hurricane, Tempest and Typhoon.
