Description

Here is the Mosquito finally finished! The kit is the Revell 1/48 scale de Havilland Mosquito mk IV which was re-released in 2012 with Canadian markings. The Camo pattern is painted after KA114 the only airworthy Mosquito. I decided to build this kit as the Fighter/Bomber version which was one of the greatest aircraft of WWII. Nicknamed the "Wooden Wonder" for its mostly wooden construction. This lightweight construction and being powered by 2 RR Merlin engines made it one of the fastest aircraft when it entered production allowing it to out perform many of the Luftwaffe fighters.

This build I would have to say is one of my better models, again using Tamiya paint which I seem to have developed a love/hate relationship with, lets just say it's either a hit or miss whether it will work out or not. I was quite impressed with how the kit fit together. The only place that really required filling was around where the nose joins onto the fuselage. The canopy was the worst part of the model. It didn't fit well and by the time I had put it on I had already finished painting the model. Taping off for the canopy was a bit tough and if you look close you will see the flaws. Also some of the paint got lifted off causing the paint on the canopy to look a bit jagged, I attribute that to the Tamiya paint not bonding properly with the plastic.

Overall I'm happy with this model and It will definitely be displayed, just don't look too closely at it!
